Our story begins in 1992 when we founded Turkey’s first national economy/news TV network, Kanal E, which today is on air as CNBC-E, operated by the NTV-CNBC group.
Kanal E was Turkey’s one of first private TV networks launched pursuant to the deregulation of the Turkish broadcast media in 1990. The sector in those days was still at its infancy and the major networks we see today were not in existence. However, our vision and confidence in the promising Turkish economy, in parallel with its integration into the global markets, led us to the foundation of Turkey’s first economy focused news network.
Today we are pleased to see the success of CNBC-E and take great pride in our vision and innovative approach to the broadcasting fundamentals over 15 years ago.
The days of passive audiences and disengaged consumers are behind us and we are at the very center of this shift in how media is produced and consumed and in how businesses and consumers function. As the importance of community, collaboration and participatory networked media increases and as the new technologies and their wide acceptance contribute to the increasing prominence of the “New Media”, our focus and endeavors continue to deliver content to over 5 million Turkish Diaspora around the world in the form of satellite TV, IPTV, video-on-demand and as virtual information channels.
While media was the initial and only focus when we started 15 years ago, our first encounter with the Internet is even more interesting… Back in 1995, when we in cooperation with EarthLink, one of the largest ISPs of the US, incorporated Turkey’s first internet hosting company, Medyatext AS, even the word “internet” itself was unfamiliar in the country. It was only one year later the Turkish Telecom laid Turkey’s then-only internet back bone of 2 mbit and the Turkish people were introduced to this ever growing phenomenon. Today there are over 20 million internet users in Turkey, most with ADSL broadband access, and the infrastructure is rapidly shifting to fiber-to-the-home delivery.
Our activities in the internet area range from hosting and data center operations to corporate solutions that grow nationwide through our unique franchising model. On the consumer side, our over twenty novelty-domain portals, from carrier to social networking to news, are all major players in their respective areas reaching a combined audience of two million users across the globe.
Our ventures in Telecom and voice systems have grown dramatically with the introduction of a focused Mobility Unit four years ago. Today, our mobility group manages over 80 in-house developed mobile applications residing over 2.5 million devices in 47 countries.
When it comes to communications and entertainment, integration is becoming increasingly important to businesses and consumers who want to reap the benefits of “anytime, anywhere on virtually any device”.
In an effort to cater to this need of what they want, when they want it, Internet Holding deployed its new strategy around "three screens" that people value most the TV, the PC and the mobile devices. With its proven creative and visionary track record, diversified yet integrated portfolio of businesses of media-internet-telecom, Internet Holding is on the fast track to making the "three screen" strategy a reality for its targeted audience.
